SkyStair

iPhone · iOS 18 or later

Take the stairs, and climb past the world's landmarks.

Every flight of stairs you take normally leaves you nothing to show for it. SkyStair turns the flights your iPhone counted into height, stacks them, and shows the result as landmarks you have passed. The Eiffel Tower at 330 m, Mount Fuji at 3,776 m, Everest at 8,849 m — and beyond all 27, space at 100 km.

The main screen

Open the app, and the artwork for your next landmark fills the screen. Here, Tokyo Skytree (634 m) is 45 m away — the 589 m you've already climbed and 75% of the stretch are both right there. Tap it, and it flips over to show that landmark's details.

  • Your next landmark is waiting for you in the artworkThe name and height sit top left, the height you have climbed sits bottom left — and the artwork shows the landmark you are about to pass.
  • A climb meter down the right edgeA vertical bar shows how far into the stretch you are, with the percentage riding at its tip.
  • Flip it over for the details — including how height is measuredA note about the landmark, your progress through this stretch, the height climbed, what is left, and the last landmark you passed — plus how that height is measured, from where to where. History, statistics and settings are on the back too.

These are the app's own screens, captured in all 12 languages at the same height: 589 m.

Every landmark you pass becomes a card

Pass a landmark and it stays with you as a card. Which landmark, and when — on one image, with the artwork, so what you show people is not how many steps you took today but how far you have come. Every landmark you pass stays in your history and the card can be made again at any time.

  • What goes on the cardThe artwork, the landmark's name and height, the flights you climbed, the time it took, and the day you passed it. Each landmark's English lettering is custom-drawn for that one alone — 27 in total.

What it does not collect

There are no accounts. The app never talks to a server of ours. There are no ads and no analytics. The flights read from Health never reach us.
