Privacy Policy

trimix (“we”) sets out below how information is handled in the iOS app SkyStair (“the app”).

1. Scope

This policy covers the app itself. Distribution and purchases go through the App Store and are handled by Apple under Apple’s own terms.

2. We receive nothing

The app never talks to a server of ours. We do not run one. There is no mechanism inside it that sends anything to us or to a third party, and there are no accounts. We therefore have no way of knowing what you do in the app.

Your arrivals and your total height are also kept in your own iCloud (see “4. iCloud”). That is your own iCloud storage, and we cannot see what is in it.

3. What the app stores on your device

The app stores only these six things, all in its own storage on your device. Three of them — your arrivals, the day you started and your total height — are also kept in your own iCloud (see “4. iCloud”). None of it is sent to us.

WhatWhyWhere it is kept
Flights climbed from Health
(flightsClimbed)
To work out and show how high you have climbed Not stored. It is read from Health and used to draw the screen. The app never writes to Health
Landmarks you have passed
(which one, when, your total height at that moment, which lap, how many days it took, and whether you shared it)
Your history and the share cards The app’s own storage on the device
+ your own iCloud
Your language choiceTo show the app in that language On the device only (never kept in iCloud)
The day you startedTo work out how long it took The app’s own storage on the device
+ your own iCloud
Your total height and when it was measured
(the latest figure your iPhone has measured from Health)
To show your last height the next time you open the app, until it has read Health again, and to let an iPad signed in to the same Apple Account show the figure your iPhone measured The app’s own storage on the device
+ your own iCloud
Your settings in the app
(how the artwork looks, whether Health has been asked for permission, and a note of whether you bought the extra features — Apple’s record is the authoritative one)
So your settings are still there the next time you open them On the device only (never kept in iCloud)

The heights the app stores are calculated from your flights. No history of the flights themselves is stored.

Reading Health requires your permission. If you decline, the app still runs but cannot read your flights. You can withdraw permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.

4. iCloud

Your arrivals, the day you started, and your total height with the time it was measured are also kept in your own iCloud. This is for two purposes only: so that your records survive a new phone or a reinstall of the app, and so that an iPad signed in to the same Apple Account can show the figures your iPhone has measured. Because they are kept in iCloud, they can also be read from your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account.

On an iPad, or any other device that is not an iPhone, the app does not read Health (and does not ask for permission) and writes nothing to iCloud. It only reads and shows the figures your iPhone has put there.

They sit in your own iCloud storage, and we cannot see what is in it (we run no server of our own). If you are not signed in to iCloud, the app still works on your iPhone exactly as it does otherwise — everything is then kept on the device alone. On an iPad, or any other device that is not an iPhone, the figures from your iPhone cannot arrive without iCloud, so your height cannot be shown there. Anything marked “on the device only” in the table above, such as your language choice, is never kept in iCloud.

Two further things happen at the iOS level. They are separate from the storage described above:

  • iCloud Backup — if you have iCloud Backup switched on, everything listed above is held by Apple as part of your device backup. That is a function of iOS, not something the app sends.
  • Health’s own sync — whether your Health data syncs between your devices is your choice, in Settings → your Apple Account → iCloud → Health. The app has no part in that setting and can neither read nor change it. If it is on, flights counted on your other devices arrive in this device’s Health, and the app reads them from there.

5. What we do not collect

  • Name, email address, phone number or any other contact detail
  • Location. The app never asks for it
  • Contacts, photo library, camera or microphone
  • The advertising identifier (IDFA). The app shows no ads and does no tracking
  • Usage analytics. There is no analytics SDK in the app at all

6. Notifications

The notification you get when you pass a landmark is a local notification built on your device. There is no push server. You can withdraw notification permission at any time in Settings.

7. Purchases

SkyStair Plus is a one-time in-app purchase. Payment is processed by Apple, and we never receive your payment details.

8. Deleting your data

Deleting the app removes from your device everything it kept there. What is held in your own iCloud — your arrivals, the day you started, and your total height with the time it was measured — stays, however. If you install the app again, your arrivals and the day you started come back from iCloud (your iPhone measures your height from Health again).

To remove that as well, delete the app’s data in Settings → your Apple Account → iCloud.

Anything already held in an iCloud Backup stays with Apple for as long as that backup is kept (you can delete it in Settings). The flights recorded in Health belong to the Health app, so they are not removed by deleting SkyStair.

9. Children

The app is not directed at any particular age group and collects no personal information from anyone.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change it, we update this page and change the date shown above.
